In Loving Memory of James “Matt” Lushin 🕊️
With heavy hearts, the community of Westfield mourns the loss of James “Matt” Lushin, whose life was tragically cut short on the evening of March 12, 2026. Matt, born on May 24, 1978, was a beloved member of his family, a friend to many, and a familiar presence to those who knew him throughout the community.
At approximately 7:24 p.m., officers with the Westfield Police Department responded to a residence in the 3900 block of Westfield Road after receiving a call to assist medics regarding a person found unresponsive inside the home. When first responders arrived, they discovered Matt inside the residence suffering from serious injuries. Despite the immediate efforts of medical personnel from the Westfield Fire Department, he was sadly pronounced gone at the scene.
Following the initial investigation, authorities confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide investigation. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division of the Westfield Police Department are continuing their work to determine exactly what happened and to bring clarity and justice to this heartbreaking situation.
While the circumstances surrounding Matt’s passing remain under investigation, what remains certain is the profound impact his life had on those around him. Matt was more than just a name in a report—he was a son, a relative, a friend, and a member of a community that now grieves his loss. Those who knew him remember the moments shared, the conversations had, and the memories created over the years. His presence in the lives of many will not be forgotten.
