In Loving Memory of Lai La
With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of Lai La, whose life was tragically lost following a devastating three-vehicle collision on the Liberty Bridge.
At approximately 12:52 p.m., officers with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police were dispatched to the bridge after reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, they encountered a horrific scene involving three vehicles, one of which was engulfed in flames. Inside that burning vehicle were three occupants trapped within. Despite the urgency and bravery of first responders who worked swiftly to extinguish the fire and extricate those inside, Lai La, an adult female passenger, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other occupants from the same vehicle — an adult male and an adult female — were rescued and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The adult male occupant of the second vehicle was evaluated at the scene by paramedics from the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS and did not require hospital transport. The occupant of the third vehicle was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire also responded to assist at the scene, and the Accident Investigation Unit has since been called to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
While the details outline the events of that tragic afternoon, they cannot fully express the magnitude of the loss felt by Lai La’s loved ones. Behind the flashing lights, the reports, and the investigation is a life — a beautiful and meaningful life — that has now become a cherished memory.
