In Loving Memory of Andrew Wolford

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. — The Blair County community is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of 23-year-old Andrew Wolford of Altoona, whose life was tragically cut short in the early morning hours of Saturday following a devastating crash along Interstate 99.

At approximately 4 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the southbound lanes of I-99 near mile marker 54 after receiving reports of a serious accident involving a possible ejection. The crash resulted in the temporary closure of the highway at Exit 61 in Port Matilda, as traffic was diverted to allow first responders to work safely and investigators to assess the scene.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a Honda Civic traveling southbound collided with a disabled vehicle that had earlier struck a guide rail and come to rest in the right lane of the interstate. The force of the impact triggered a chain reaction, pushing the disabled vehicle into another before all vehicles ultimately came to rest along the roadway. Authorities also noted that the operator of the disabled vehicle was outside of the car and walking across the interstate at the time of the crash.

Ray Benton, Blair County Coroner, confirmed that Andrew Wolford died from blunt force injuries sustained in the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Windber as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.

Andrew’s sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Altoona community. At just 23 years old, Andrew was in the prime of his life — a young man filled with dreams, ambitions, and a future that held endless possibilities. Those who knew him describe him as kind-hearted, genuine, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a quiet strength about him, paired with a warm smile that could brighten even the darkest of days.

Growing up in Altoona, Andrew built lasting friendships and meaningful connections. He was someone who valued loyalty and family, someone who showed up when it mattered most. Whether it was spending time with loved ones, enjoying the simple pleasures of life, or working toward his goals, Andrew approached life with sincerity and determination.

In moments like these, words often feel inadequate. The grief that follows such an unexpected loss is profound and overwhelming. Andrew’s family now faces the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye far too soon. His friends are left holding memories — of laughter shared, conversations had, and moments that now feel even more precious.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on honoring Andrew’s life and supporting those who loved him. The tragedy also serves as a solemn reminder of how quickly life can change and the importance of roadway safety, especially in unexpected and hazardous situations.

The Blair County community stands united in sorrow, offering prayers, comfort, and strength to Andrew’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Though his life was brief, the impact he made will not be forgotten. His memory will live on in the stories told, in the love he gave, and in the lives he touched.

Rest peacefully, Andrew Wolford. You were taken too soon, but you will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
