Motorcyclist Ed Chesnik Killed in Collision with Truck on 29 Road in Grand Junction

Grand Junction, Colo. – The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of Ed Chesnik, a local motorcyclist, on Wednesday evening.

On August 20, 2025, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of 29 Road after reports of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

According to investigators, a truck traveling southbound on 29 Road attempted to turn east onto Four Corners Drive when it struck a motorcycle heading northbound. The impact caused catastrophic injuries to the motorcyclist.

Emergency crews from the Grand Junction Fire Department rushed to the scene and transported Chesnik to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite extensive medical efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office confirmed Chesnik’s identity after notifying his family. At this time, officials have not released further details about the driver of the truck or whether any citations or charges may be filed.

The Grand Junction Police Department’s traffic unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators will examine factors such as speed, visibility, and possible driver impairment to determine what led to the fatal collision.

Residents familiar with the 29 Road and Four Corners Drive intersection have expressed concern over heavy traffic patterns and the risks posed to motorcyclists, who are often less visible to larger vehicles.

As word of Chesnik’s death spreads, friends and community members have begun mourning his loss. Many described him as a dedicated motorcyclist who loved the open road and had deep ties to the Grand Junction area.

Authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant—especially during summer months when motorcycles are more common on local roadways. The #GJPD emphasized the importance of checking blind spots, yielding when turning, and maintaining awareness of smaller vehicles that can be easily overlooked.

The investigation remains ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
