With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we remember the life of Josiah LeFever, 28, of Geneseo, whose life was tragically lost in a fatal motor vehicle crash on the morning of February 23, 2026, in the Town of Geneseo, New York.

According to Thomas J. Dougherty, deputies responded at approximately 7:32 a.m. to the area of Avon Genesee Road near Nations Road after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious two-vehicle collision. When first responders arrived on scene, they confirmed that the crash had resulted in a devastating loss of life.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Josiah was traveling northbound on Avon Genesee Road when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Despite the swift response from emergency personnel, Josiah was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a thorough investigation. Members of the Command Staff, Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Drone Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, and the department’s Victim Specialist worked diligently to document the scene and support those affected. Numerous agencies assisted in the response, including the New York State Police, Geneseo Police Department, Geneseo Fire Department, CHS, Livonia EMS, Livingston County EMS, and the Livingston County Coroner’s Office. Their coordinated efforts reflected the seriousness of the incident and the shared commitment to serving the community in moments of crisis.

While the investigation remains ongoing, today we pause not to focus on the details of the accident, but to honor the man behind the headlines.

Josiah LeFever was more than a name in a report. He was a son, a family member, a friend, and a member of the Geneseo community.
