In Loving Memory of Jeremy Charles

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — With heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of Jeremy Charles, a devoted worker, beloved family member, and respected member of his community, whose life was tragically cut short on Monday in East Lampeter Township.

Jeremy, 39, of Holtwood, Pennsylvania, was diligently carrying out his duties as an employee of Amtrak when the unthinkable occurred. While working alongside a crew near Greenfield Road, he was struck by a train. Despite the swift response from authorities and emergency personnel, Jeremy was found near the tracks and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. He was later transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center, where an autopsy is scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, Amtrak suspended all service along the Keystone Service route for the remainder of the day, a solemn acknowledgment of the gravity of the loss and the need to ensure a thorough investigation. Yet beyond the disruption of schedules and services lies a far greater loss — the loss of a man whose life mattered deeply to those who knew and loved him.

Jeremy was more than an employee; he was a son, a friend, a colleague, and a neighbor. Those who worked beside him remember his dedication, reliability, and steady presence. Railroad work demands focus, discipline, and courage, and Jeremy embodied those qualities each day he reported to the tracks. He understood the responsibility that came with his role and took pride in contributing to a service that connects communities and keeps people moving safely.

At home in Holtwood, Jeremy was known for his warm spirit and grounded nature. He was someone who could be counted on — whether to lend a helping hand, share a laugh, or offer quiet support during difficult times. His loss leaves a void that words can scarcely capture.

Tragedies like this remind us of the risks many workers face daily to maintain the essential services we often take for granted. Jeremy’s passing underscores the dedication of railway workers and the importance of safety within the industry. As investigations continue, the community stands united in grief and in gratitude for the life Jeremy lived.

To his family, friends, and colleagues, we extend our deepest sympathies. May they find strength in one another, comfort in cherished memories, and peace in knowing that Jeremy’s work and life made a difference.

Though his time was far too brief, Jeremy Charles will be remembered for his commitment, his character, and the quiet impact he made on those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of many across Lancaster County and beyond.

May he rest in eternal peace.
