In Loving Memory of Daphne D. Peters & Dexter P. Magee

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we remember the lives of Daphne D. Peters, 57, of Hattiesburg, and Dexter P. Magee, 58, of Collins, who tragically lost their lives in the early morning hours following a devastating crash in Alabama. Their sudden passing has left their families, friends, and communities grieving an unimaginable loss.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash occurred at approximately 1:36 a.m. along Alabama 158 near Wilmer-Georgetown Road, about six miles west of Semmes in Mobile County. What began as an ordinary journey turned into a heartbreaking tragedy that would forever alter the lives of those who loved Daphne and Dexter.

Troopers reported that the GMC Acadia they were traveling in collided head-on with a Freightliner semitractor-trailer. Daphne was pronounced dead at the scene. Dexter, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The road remained closed for a period as emergency responders worked diligently at the scene.

In the aftermath of the initial collision, the Freightliner semitractor-trailer was struck by a Volvo semitractor-trailer. Both truck drivers — one a 36-year-old man from Vicksburg and the other a 46-year-old man from Haines City — were transported to USA Health University Hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Yet beyond the details of the accident are two lives that meant so much more than a news report could ever convey.

Daphne D. Peters was known as a woman of strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Whether through her quiet kindness or her steadfast support, she had a way of making people feel valued and understood. Her presence brought comfort and stability, and her laughter could brighten even the heaviest of days. To her family and friends in Hattiesburg and beyond, she was a cornerstone — dependable, compassionate, and deeply loved.

Dexter P. Magee, of Collins, was remembered as a man with a generous spirit and a heart that embraced life fully. He carried himself with resilience and sincerity, and he valued connection above all else. Those who knew him speak of his loyalty, his sense of humor, and the way he could turn simple moments into cherished memories. His life was a testament to perseverance and the importance of family bonds.

Together, Daphne and Dexter leave behind grieving families, heartbroken friends, and communities struggling to comprehend this sudden loss. Their absence will be felt in countless ways — at family gatherings, in everyday conversations, in the quiet moments where memories rise unbidden. Though their time on earth was cut short, the love they gave and the lives they touched endure.

This tragedy also serves as a solemn reminder of how fragile life can be. In a single moment, everything can change. May their passing inspire reflection, compassion, and a renewed commitment to safety on our roadways, as authorities continue their investigation into the cause of this heartbreaking crash.

As we honor Daphne and Dexter, we choose to remember not the final moments of their lives, but the years they spent building relationships, sharing laughter, and creating legacies of love. May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may their families find strength in one another and comfort in the outpouring of support from their communities.

Forever remembered. Forever loved.
