State police reported that the crash involved a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer had been stationary on the shoulder of the Exit 62 off-ramp when the collision occurred. Troopers stated that Sartori-Souza drove along the ramp and struck the rear of the trailer. Firefighters later confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
