With heavy hearts, family, friends, and the community mourn the tragic loss of Gaspar Cedillo Lopez, whose life was cut short in a devastating head-on collision on U.S. Route 250 in southern Stark County on Thursday afternoon.

According to an update from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Gaspar Cedillo Lopez, 28, of New Philadelphia, was the front right-seat passenger in a 2002 Toyota RAV4 involved in the crash. He was transported to Aultman Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:43 p.m. west of State Route 93 in Sugarcreek Township. Authorities reported that the Toyota RAV4 was traveling northwest when it went left of center and collided head-on with a 2024 GMC Sierra. The force of the impact was catastrophic. Three of the four occupants of the RAV4 were ejected from the vehicle, while Gaspar required extrication by the fire department. All four occupants were transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital and Aultman Hospital for emergency treatment.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 31-year-old man from Michigan, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Mercy Hospital. First responders from Beach City Fire and EMS, Wilmot EMS, Strasburg EMS, and Tracers Towing worked tirelessly at the scene, demonstrating courage and professionalism amid the chaos and heartbreak.
