In Loving Memory of Lisandro V. Morales

The Manchester community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 65-year-old Lisandro V. Morales, whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating multi-vehicle collision on State Highway 70 on the afternoon of February 25. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and neighbors who knew him as a man of strength, kindness, and quiet dedication.

According to the Manchester Township Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:26 p.m. to the intersection of Route 70 and Beckerville Road following reports of a serious crash. What they encountered was a scene of immense devastation — a four-vehicle collision that would ultimately claim a precious life.

Investigators determined that a 2019 Honda Passport and Mr. Morales’ 2014 Lincoln MKX were traveling westbound on Route 70, while a 2016 Nissan Rogue was heading eastbound. Authorities reported that the Honda slowed to make a right turn onto Beckerville Road when the Lincoln, driven by Mr. Morales, struck the rear driver’s side of the SUV. In the chaotic seconds that followed, the Lincoln crossed the center line and collided head-on with the eastbound Nissan. The force of the impact caused the Lincoln to rotate before coming to rest in the eastbound lane.

Lisandro V. Morales sustained severe internal injuries in the collision. He was rushed to Community Medical Center, where medical professionals fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased, leaving behind grief that words can scarcely capture.

The driver of the Nissan, a 37-year-old man from Jackson, suffered internal and neck injuries and was transported for treatment. The driver of the Honda and her young passenger were thankfully unharmed. While others walked away physically intact, the emotional weight of the tragedy will linger for all involved.

Route 70 remained closed for several hours as emergency crews worked diligently at the scene. Multiple agencies responded in service and solidarity, including the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Diversion Team, and Priced Rite Towing. Their combined efforts reflected the seriousness of the incident and the commitment to care for those affected.

Authorities have indicated that following too closely appears to be the primary contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains active under the leadership of Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

Yet beyond the details of the accident lies the life of a man who mattered deeply.

Lisandro V. Morales was more than a name in a report. He was a 65-year-old resident of Manchester — a neighbor, a friend, a family member whose presence brought meaning to the lives around him. Those who knew him will remember his experiences, his wisdom earned over decades, and the quiet moments that defined his character. At 65, he carried a lifetime of stories, relationships, and memories that now become treasures for those he leaves behind.

Tragedies like this remind us how fragile life can be. An ordinary afternoon drive became a life-altering moment for multiple families. In honoring Mr. Morales, we are reminded to cherish each day, to extend patience on the road, and to hold our loved ones a little closer.

As Manchester grieves, the community stands united in compassion and remembrance. May the memory of Lisandro V. Morales be a source of strength to his family in the difficult days ahead. May they find comfort in the love that surrounds them and in the lasting impact he made during his 65 years of life.

Rest in peace, Lisandro. You will not be forgotten.
