According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the tragic incident occurred on the night of March 6, at approximately 11:45 p.m., along Baltimore Pike near Red Roof Drive in Chester Heights Borough. Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Media Station responded to reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in the northbound lanes of the roadway.

When first responders arrived, they found Steven Hulsey lying unconscious in the roadway. The scene was one of urgency and heartbreak as emergency personnel from Rocky Run EMS immediately began lifesaving efforts in hopes of saving his life. Despite their determined efforts, Steven’s injuries were severe. He was rushed to Riddle Hospital, where medical professionals continued to fight for him. Tragically, he was later pronounced deceased, leaving a wave of grief in the wake of the tragedy.

Authorities say the vehicle believed to have struck Steven was described as a light-colored SUV or crossover, which fled the scene northbound on Baltimore Pike before troopers arrived. The driver’s decision to leave the scene has only deepened the pain felt by those who loved Steven, as his family and community search not only for answers but also for justice.

Investigators with the Pennsylvania State Police Media Criminal Investigation Unit continue to work tirelessly to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision. At this time, many details surrounding the crash remain unknown, and officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed suspicious activity in the area between 11:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. to come forward and assist with the investigation.

While authorities pursue the truth, those who knew Steven are left reflecting on the person he was and the memories he leaves behind. Though details of his personal life may only be known deeply by those closest to him, what remains clear is that his life mattered. Every life carries a story, a network of relationships, and countless small moments that shape the lives of others. Steven’s story is now carried forward in the hearts of those who loved him.

Tragic losses like this remind communities of the fragility of life and the importance of compassion, responsibility, and accountability on the road. Pedestrian safety remains a serious concern across many communities, and incidents like this serve as painful reminders of the consequences when drivers fail to stop and render aid.
