West Virginia State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting at Ghent Convenience Store

GHENT, W.Va – West Virginia State Police are investigating a shooting that unfolded Tuesday morning in Ghent following a series of disturbing incidents involving a man exhibiting erratic behavior.

According to authorities, the situation began around 7:30 a.m. when a toll booth worker contacted law enforcement to report a man who had passed through a nearby toll stop. The worker told troopers that the driver appeared to be arguing with a woman over the phone and was acting in a bizarre and unpredictable manner.

After leaving the toll stop, the man drove to a Subway restaurant located on Odd Road, which is attached to a Little General Store. Employees at the location quickly grew alarmed by his behavior and also called the police.

West Virginia State Police troopers responded to the scene shortly after the call. Details on what transpired during the encounter remain limited, but authorities confirmed that troopers discharged their weapons, striking the man. He was rendered medical aid at the scene before being transported to a hospital.

The man’s identity and condition have not yet been released, pending further investigation and notification of family members.

State Police have not provided information on what prompted the use of force but confirmed that the incident is under active investigation. As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, an internal review will also be conducted.

Local residents expressed shock at the morning’s events, as the store and restaurant are frequented daily by commuters and locals. Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
