WASHINGTON PARK – MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN JUNE SHOOTING

CHICAGO, Ill. – A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 20-year-old Aaliyah Johnson in the Washington Park neighborhood earlier this summer.

According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), Xavier Tousant, 22, was arrested on Monday and charged with first-degree murder for the June 27 killing of Johnson.

The Incident:
On the night of June 27, at approximately 9:38 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 5400 block of South Prairie Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Aaliyah Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Investigation & Arrest:
After an extensive investigation by CPD detectives, Tousant was identified as the suspected shooter. Authorities have not released a motive for the killing, but evidence gathered during the investigation led to his arrest.

What’s Next:
Tousant is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing on Wednesday, where prosecutors are expected to present their case to keep him in custody pending trial.
