EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities have identified 29-year-old Noel Gutierrez-Cano as the victim in a homicide investigation connected to a traffic crash on Highway 24 earlier this week.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 8:10 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received multiple calls reporting a three-vehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 24 and Blue Gill Drive, close to Judge Orr Road in unincorporated El Paso County.
When deputies and emergency crews arrived on scene, they discovered a passenger inside one of the vehicles — a white 2013 GMC Sierra Denali pickup truck towing a black trailer — who appeared to be gravely injured. Despite life-saving measures, the individual could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim, Gutierrez-Cano, was later confirmed by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office to have suffered at least one gunshot wound. His official cause and manner of death will be determined after a full autopsy is completed.
Adding to the gravity of the case, investigators determined that the driver of the white pickup truck fled the area immediately after the crash. Deputies have launched an extensive search to locate the individual responsible.
“This tragic case is being treated as a homicide investigation,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Gutierrez-Cano’s family and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.”
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are calling on the community for assistance. Detectives are specifically asking anyone who was traveling in the area of Highway 24 and Blue Gill Drive between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on August 26 to review dashcam footage, home surveillance systems, or business security video for any unusual activity or sightings of the suspect vehicle.
The vehicle of interest is described as a white 2013 GMC Sierra Denali pickup truck towing a black trailer. A verified photo of the truck and trailer has been released by law enforcement to help the public identify it.
Additionally, the family of Noel Gutierrez-Cano has provided a photo of him as they seek justice and closure in the wake of their devastating loss.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that several investigative leads are being pursued, though no arrests have been made at this time.
