Two People Fatally Shot in Sudbury; One Arrest Made, Others Remain at Large

Sudbury, Ontario – A late-night shooting in Sudbury has left two people dead and sparked an intensive police investigation as authorities search for additional suspects who fled the scene.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 10:23 p.m. when Greater Sudbury Police Service officers responded to reports of gunfire at a building located at 1960 Paris Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a tragic scene inside. A 41-year-old woman and an unidentified man were found fatally shot. Despite efforts from emergency responders, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. However, investigators believe that more than one individual was involved, and several suspects managed to escape before officers arrived. Authorities stressed that the incident does not appear to have been random. Instead, early findings suggest the victims and attackers were known to each other and that the shooting was a targeted act of violence.

The Criminal Investigations Division is now leading the probe, working to piece together the sequence of events and identify those who remain at large. Detectives have been canvassing the area, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses in hopes of tracking down the other suspects involved.

Police have not yet released the name of the deceased man pending notification of next of kin. The woman has been identified only by her age at this time. The motive behind the shooting has not been publicly confirmed, though investigators continue to emphasize that there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the wider community.

In a statement, Greater Sudbury Police urged anyone with information, surveillance video, or knowledge of the suspects’ whereabouts to come forward immediately. “This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the department said. “We are committed to holding those responsible accountable and ensuring the safety of our community.”

The deaths have sent shockwaves through the Sudbury community. Neighbors expressed shock that such violence could erupt in the residential area along Paris Street. Many also voiced concern for the families of the victims, calling the incident a devastating tragedy.

“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victims as they grieve this terrible loss,” police added in their release.

As of now, charges against the arrested 44-year-old man have not been formally detailed, but authorities expect updates as the investigation progresses. The case remains a top priority for local law enforcement, with efforts intensifying to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects.
