West Palm Beach, Fla. – The West Palm Beach community is mourning the tragic loss of Leroy Scott, a 75-year-old man who was fatally shot outside his residence on Haden Avenue on Tuesday morning. Authorities have confirmed that his daughter, Leah Scott, 43, has been taken into custody in connection with his death.
According to police and court documents, the incident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. Surveillance video from nearby homes and Bak Middle School captured Leroy Scott outside his home when his daughter approached him in her vehicle. Following a brief exchange, Scott reportedly turned and began walking away. Investigators allege that Leah Scott then retrieved a handgun from her waistband and fired at her father from close range. The probable cause affidavit indicates she discharged a total of four shots, striking Leroy Scott and causing his death at the scene.
Leah Scott, who was employed as a teacher at JFK Middle School at the time of the incident, reportedly fled the scene in her vehicle. She was located by police less than a mile away in the 5400 block of Greenwood Avenue around 9:30 a.m. During a police interview, she reportedly confessed to shooting her father, explaining that she confronted him for reasons that are still under investigation.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has charged Leah Scott in connection with the death of her father. She is currently held at the Palm Beach County Jail. Authorities continue to gather information and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
