TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Tallahassee woman has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a month-long investigation into the stabbing death of her boyfriend at an East Magnolia Drive apartment complex. The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Tybius Andrews. The suspect was identified as Landy Hayes .
According to the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), officers responded to a call at approximately 10:47 p.m. on July 25, 2025, at the Talla-Villa Apartments, located at 925 E. Magnolia Drive. When officers arrived, they discovered an adult male suffering from stab wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Initial Statements
During the early stages of the investigation, detectives learned that Andrews had been in a romantic relationship with 37-year-old Landy Hayes for several months. Witness statements and evidence indicated that on the night of July 25, the couple became involved in an altercation that escalated into violence.
Hayes was initially questioned by police at the scene and later released pending further investigation. In her initial statement to officers, Hayes claimed that Andrews had been drinking heavily and, at some point during the argument, produced a knife. Hayes said she was able to wrestle the knife away from him, and alleged that Andrews impaled himself on the weapon.
Autopsy Findings and Inconsistencies
The Leon County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy, confirming that Andrews had alcohol in his system at the time of his death. However, forensic analysis concluded that the fatal stab wound could not have been self-inflicted in the manner described by Hayes.
As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered inconsistencies in Hayes’s account of what transpired that evening. Authorities now believe Hayes intentionally misled investigators in an effort to conceal her involvement.
Formal Charges Filed
On August 28, 2025, nearly five weeks after Andrews’s death, police announced that Hayes had been formally charged with second-degree murder. She was taken into custody and booked into the Leon County Jail.
Hayes is scheduled to make her first court appearance next week, where prosecutors are expected to present additional details regarding the case.
Community Impact
The incident has left neighbors and residents of the Talla-Villa Apartments shaken. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen right next door,” one resident told local media. “We just hope justice is served for Tybius.”
Friends and relatives of Andrews have described him as a caring individual whose life ended far too soon. Family members are now preparing for his funeral services while awaiting the outcome of Hayes’s trial.
Ongoing Case
TPD emphasized that while Hayes has been charged, the investigation is continuing, with detectives working to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to Andrews’s death. Authorities have not released information about prior domestic disturbances involving the couple but noted the altercation was the culmination of an ongoing and troubled relationship.
Hayes remains in custody pending further judicial proceedings.
