MINNEAPOLIS- On Today August 27, 2025, our community was shattered by an unthinkable tragedy when 22-year-old Robinson Westman opened fire inside a local school, injuring several students — including 12-year-old Sophia Forchas, a bright, kind, and full-of-life young girl who is now fighting for survival.
Authorities confirmed that Sophia was critically injured during the shooting and rushed into emergency surgery. She remains in the ICU in critical condition as doctors work around the clock to stabilize her. The road ahead will be long and uncertain, but Sophia is strong, and she is not alone.
Sophia’s younger brother was also inside the school at the time of the attack. Though he escaped without physical injury, the trauma of witnessing the shooting — and knowing his sister was among the most gravely hurt — is something no child should ever endure.
To make matters even more heartbreaking, Sophia’s mother, a Pediatric Critical Care nurse, responded to the hospital during the crisis to help treat victims, before realizing it was her own children’s school under attack — and that her daughter was among those fighting for her life.
Now, the Forchas family is holding onto hope while navigating the immense physical, emotional, and financial toll of this tragedy.
