Suspect Accused of Shooting Marysville Police Officer Recaptured After Escaping Columbus Hospital

COLUMBUS, Ohio – August 26, 2025 – A man accused of shooting a Marysville police officer was taken back into custody on Tuesday after reportedly escaping from a Columbus rehabilitation facility. The suspect, 29-year-old Dustin Edward Ohm, was apprehended shortly after fleeing the Dennison Avenue rehab center on a scooter, authorities said.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Ohm had been dropped off at the rehabilitation facility following an off-site medical appointment at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Deputies were reportedly unaware of this appointment, which allowed Ohm the opportunity to escape. He was recaptured a short time later, ending the brief but alarming flight.

Ohm is facing serious charges stemming from a shooting incident on May 30, 2025, in Marysville. On that morning, officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on the 900 block of White Oak Court. Upon making contact with Ohm, authorities say he allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire from inside his vehicle. Responding officers returned fire, but Ohm fled the scene, striking a Marysville police cruiser as well as several other vehicles along the way.

One Marysville police officer sustained injuries during the incident and was treated and released. The ensuing manhunt involved coordination between the Union County Sheriff’s Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, and Marysville police. Ohm was ultimately spotted traveling on U.S. 33 and State Route 31, leading to a pursuit westbound on U.S. 33. The chase ended when his vehicle became disabled in the median near Northwest Parkway.

Authorities confirmed that Ohm has been in custody since the incident but emphasized that Tuesday’s hospital escape was a separate, serious violation. “We are thankful our deputies were able to quickly recapture the suspect and prevent any further risk to the public,” a Union County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

The case has drawn attention due to both the severity of the initial shooting and the audacity of the hospital escape. Law enforcement agencies continue to coordinate to ensure Ohm remains in secure custody as he faces multiple charges, including assault on a police officer and related firearms offenses.

Residents are reminded that public safety remains a priority, and any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to local authorities. Meanwhile, the investigation into Ohm’s movements and the events leading up to his hospital escape is ongoing.
