On the evening of Saturday, August 23, 2025, a violent altercation in the eastern portion of the county led to a heavy law enforcement response and multiple individuals being hospitalized, according to Sheriff Andy R. Cumberledge. The incident unfolded just after 5:30 p.m., prompting deputies and investigators from the Sheriff’s Office to quickly converge on the scene.
One individual was taken from the scene by ambulance and airlifted to a trauma center after being transferred from the Enville Church parking lot to a medical helicopter. Authorities report that the victim was stable at the time of departure.
A second person, suffering from head injuries, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. That individual was also listed in stable condition upon arrival.
Meanwhile, deputies confirmed that one person is currently in custody in connection with the incident. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the violence, though they stress that this appears to have been an isolated occurrence. At this time, there is no active threat to the broader community.
Sheriff Cumberledge stated that the Sheriff’s Office will conduct an extensive investigation into the matter. Once completed, the case will be presented to the prosecutor’s office for review and consideration of criminal charges.
Community members expressed concern as news of the shooting spread, but officials have reassured residents that there is no ongoing danger. Law enforcement personnel remained on scene into the evening hours, gathering witness statements, documenting evidence, and ensuring that all angles of the case are fully explored.
