SAVANNAH, Ga– Authorities have identified the victim of Thursday night’s deadly shooting in Savannah as 17-year-old Shinobi Pitts, according to the Chatham County Coroner’s Office. Pitts, who was shot at least once, was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The coroner’s office confirmed on Saturday, August 23, 2025, that an autopsy has been scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation. Pitts’ death marks yet another devastating chapter in the wave of gun violence impacting Savannah’s youth.
The initial incident occurred on Thursday, August 22, around 7:30 p.m., in the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Responding officers with the Savannah Police Department (SPD) discovered Pitts on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began rendering aid until emergency medical services arrived. Despite their efforts and the medical treatment he received at the hospital, Pitts did not survive.
At this time, no arrests have been made. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what may have led up to the violence and whether Pitts was the intended target. Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
