It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah “Sallie” Tyson Royston, who unexpectedly left this world on August 23, 2025, at the age of 70. Sallie passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, family devotion, and remarkable achievements that will be remembered for generations.
Born to the late Martha Maze Royston and Louis Gerber Royston, Sallie was the beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who touched countless lives with her warmth and joyful spirit.
Sallie is lovingly survived by her devoted siblings: James Maze Royston (Mardi), Louis Gerber Royston Jr. (Lynda), Cathy Royston Laakso (the late Joe), and Mark Henry Royston (the late Kelly). She treasured her role as an aunt, pouring her heart into the lives of her nieces and nephews: Lindsay Goff (Bill), Jay Royston (Catlin), Scott Royston (Alison), Whitney Royston (Jonathan), Will Royston (Kaylene), Lauren Youngbar (Pierce), Caroline Schorer (Dan), Anton Laakso, Tracey Condosta (Josh), and Blake Royston. Her joy was multiplied in the presence of her great-nieces and nephews: Will, Mazie, Mattie, Annie, James, Rose, Isabelle, Kynzie, Mason, Reagan, Karly, Delaney, Catherine, and Ryann—all of whom brought her immense happiness.
A Passion for Golf and Excellence in Competition
Sallie’s life was marked not only by her deep love for family but also by her extraordinary passion and talent for golf. From an early age, she demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication to the sport, leading her to compete at the highest levels. As a member of the Rollins College golf team, Sallie’s competitive spirit shone brightly. She proudly participated in prestigious tournaments including the Pennsylvania State Junior Amateur, USGA Junior Amateur, North/South Amateur, Pennsylvania State Amateur, Eastern Amateur, Western Amateur, and the USGA Amateur. She also made her mark locally as a five-time winner of the Longue Vue Club Women’s Club Championship, a course she held close to her heart.
A Love for Nature and Family Gatherings
When not on the golf course, Sallie found peace and joy at the family’s beloved cottage in Eagle Harbor, Michigan. There, she relished the serene beauty of the surroundings, indulged in recreation, and cherished moments spent with extended family. Eagle Harbor was a special place for Sallie—a refuge where laughter echoed across the water and memories were made to last a lifetime.

Those who knew Sallie will remember her for her unwavering compassion, her boundless sense of humor, and her unshakable dedication to those she loved. She had a rare gift for bringing people together, brightening every room she entered, and reminding others of the importance of cherishing life’s simple joys.
Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Harmony Harts Run, whose care and kindness enriched Sallie’s final years.
