ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — On August 19, 2025, members of the Traffic Enforcement and Crash Reconstruction Unit (TECRU) charged 33-year-old Cody Bundy of Rocky Mount in connection with a tragic motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of 54-year-old Jessie Williams, also of Rocky Mount.
Bundy faces multiple charges in relation to the crash, including:
- Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Yield – Left Turn
- Window Tint Violation
- Driving While License Revoked (Non-Impaired Revocation)
He was issued a $5,000 secured bond following his arrest.
The fatal incident occurred earlier this month on August 8, 2025, at approximately 8:19 p.m., when officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injury at the intersection of Cooley Road and South Church Street. Upon arrival, investigators determined that a vehicle had collided with a moped. Tragically, the moped’s driver, Jessie Williams, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the time, police withheld the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. TECRU has been actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including factors that may have contributed to the crash, vehicle movement, and any potential violations of traffic law.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available. The community has been urged to exercise caution on roadways and to respect the investigative process as officials continue to gather evidence.
This incident marks a somber reminder of the risks faced by both motorists and riders and underscores the importance of vigilance and adherence to traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
The Rocky Mount Police Department extends condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Jessie Williams during this incredibly difficult time.
