RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting on Hunt Avenue as 34-year-old Johnnita Russell of Richmond. The tragic incident occurred on the evening of August 24, 2025, and has prompted an ongoing homicide investigation.
According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Hunt Avenue at approximately 9:33 p.m. following a call reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Russell inside a residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Richmond City Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death, providing further details to investigators as the case unfolds.
