JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — Authorities have identified 29-year-old Angelicca Amber Newton of Center Point and 35-year-old Samy Estrada-Flores of Birmingham as the two people killed in separate Jefferson County shootings last week, one of whom was a pregnant woman.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities Monday as investigators continue working both homicide cases.
Domestic Violence Turns Deadly in Lipscomb
Newton was killed just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday in what police described as a domestic assault near Fifth Street North and Sixth Avenue North in Lipscomb. Investigators said she was pregnant at the time of her death, intensifying the severity of the charges.
Authorities arrested 32-year-old Alfred Lee Colvin III and charged him with capital murder in connection to Newton’s slaying. Colvin was booked into the Jefferson County Jail late Friday afternoon and is being held without bond.
Community members in Lipscomb have since expressed heartbreak over Newton’s death, calling it a devastating reminder of the dangers of domestic violence. Advocates have emphasized the need for ongoing resources and support for women experiencing abuse.
