POLICE-INVOLVED SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION IN ENGLEWOOD

CHICAGO, Ill. – Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.

According to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA), the incident took place around 5:30 a.m. in the 5800 block of South Shields Avenue. Multiple Chicago Police Department (CPD) squad cars and more than a dozen officers quickly converged on the area, securing the scene with red police tape. Witnesses reported a heavy law enforcement presence as investigators began gathering evidence.

At this time, details remain limited. Authorities have not confirmed whether shots were fired at police officers, by police officers, or both. No injuries have been reported as of now, though paramedics were stationed at the scene as a precaution.

COPA has opened an investigation, which is standard protocol for all police-involved shootings in Chicago. Officials are urging anyone with information, including potential video footage, to come forward as the investigation continues.

Residents in the Englewood community are encouraged to remain clear of the immediate area as police process the scene.

This remains a developing story. Updates will be provided as soon as new information is released by authorities.
