Kenosha, WI – A devastating crash on Friday evening left one person dead after being struck and trapped beneath a vehicle along Highway 158 (52nd Street) in Kenosha.
According to the Kenosha Police Department (KPD), officers and members of the Kenosha Fire Department (KFD) were dispatched shortly after 8:00 p.m. to the 1900 block of Highway 158 following multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. Witnesses told dispatchers that the pedestrian had been struck and remained pinned beneath the vehicle at the time of the call.
When emergency crews arrived, they immediately confirmed that the victim was trapped under the vehicle. Firefighters worked urgently to free the individual, but despite rescue efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to assist, and the victim’s body was later removed under a police escort.
Authorities said Flight for Life was initially placed on standby, but the request was later canceled once it was determined the injuries were not survivable.
Following the crash, KPD shut down Highway 158/52nd Street in both directions between 18th Avenue and 22nd Avenue. The closure lasted for several hours as members of the Multi-Jurisdictional Crash Investigation Team (MCAT) and police crash reconstruction specialists carefully documented and processed the scene. Traffic was rerouted through nearby residential areas until the roadway was cleared late into the night.
As of now, police have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No arrests or citations have been announced at this time.
The incident has left nearby residents shaken, as many noted the heavy traffic and speed issues that often plague the stretch of Highway 158. Several neighbors who gathered at the scene expressed concern about pedestrian safety along the corridor.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kenosha Police Department and MCAT, who will determine contributing factors such as speed, lighting conditions, or possible impairment.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to contact the Kenosha Police Department at 262-605-5200.
