  • Counselors Available Following Shooting at Mayfield’s Battle of the Birds Football Game

Counselors Available Following Shooting at Mayfield’s Battle of the Birds Football Game

MAYFIELD, Ky. — The Mayfield community is grappling with shock and concern following a shooting that occurred Friday night during the much-anticipated “Battle of the Birds” football game. Local officials confirmed that counselors will be available Saturday, August 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mayfield High School to provide emotional support for students, staff, and community members affected by the incident. All scheduled school activities across the Mayfield Independent School District have been canceled for the remainder of the weekend.

According to the Mayfield Police Department, the shooting occurred in a parking lot near War Memorial Stadium, just outside the stadium where Mayfield High School and Graves County High School were competing in their annual rivalry game. Authorities confirmed that one adult male victim was shot and transported initially to Jackson Purchase Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee for advanced treatment. His current condition has not been released.

The shooting sparked immediate chaos inside the stadium, as portions of the game were being broadcast live. A video segment from WYMC Radio’s livestream, shared widely on social media, shows the moment the crowd began scattering in panic after the gunfire. Many attendees described scenes of confusion as parents rushed to find children and athletes were moved quickly to safety.

In the aftermath, a moving show of unity emerged. Sports broadcaster Eric Chumbler shared an image of McCracken County and Paducah Tilghman athletes gathering in prayer alongside Mayfield and Graves County players. The moment has since resonated across the community as a reminder of resilience in the face of tragedy.

Police have not yet released any suspect information or confirmed whether the shooting was connected to the football game or occurred independently. Detectives are working to gather surveillance footage and interview witnesses who were present in and around the stadium parking lot.

The Mayfield Police Department is urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. Community members can provide information by calling police dispatch at (270) 856-3721, or through Crimestoppers by calling (270) 443-8355 or texting “WKY” and a tip to 738477.

This shooting comes less than three years after Mayfield was devastated by a deadly tornado in December 2021, a tragedy that left a lasting impact on the small western Kentucky town. For many, the violence at Friday’s game has reopened wounds and raised renewed concern about community safety.

While authorities continue their investigation, school officials hope the availability of counselors will help students, staff, and families process the traumatic events of the evening. “Our hearts are with everyone affected,” a district statement read. “We encourage our community to come together and support one another during this time.”

One Dead, Suspect in Custody After Downtown Crossville Shooting

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — A tragic shooting late Friday night in downtown Crossville has left 47-year-old Michael Turner dead, and police say the suspected shooter, Eric Garrison, 38, is now in custody as the investigation unfolds.

According to Crossville authorities, the incident happened in the heart of the city’s downtown area. Officers responded to reports of shots fired shortly before midnight and discovered Turner suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving measures by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police quickly identified Garrison as the suspected shooter. He was located and taken into custody without further incident.

At this time, officials have not confirmed what led up to the shooting. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, but details about whether Turner and Garrison knew each other remain unclear. Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, as Garrison is being held while detectives continue gathering evidence.

The Crossville Police Department has cordoned off parts of the downtown area where the shooting occurred while crime scene technicians process evidence. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and interviewing witnesses to piece together the moments that led up to the deadly altercation.

The Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office will be working closely with law enforcement as formal charges are prepared against Garrison. He is expected to make his initial court appearance early next week.

Community leaders expressed shock at the violence, with many residents noting that downtown Crossville is usually a quiet area known for its family-friendly atmosphere. “This is heartbreaking,” one nearby business owner said. “We don’t usually see this kind of violence here.”

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information or cell phone video from the incident to contact the Crossville Police Department.

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — A violent incident in downtown Crossville was captured on video late last night, leaving the community shaken and raising questions about what led up to the altercation.

According to reports, a bystander recorded the confrontation, which escalated into gunfire. Two screen grabs taken from the video show the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Due to the disturbing nature of the images, they are being shared with caution and only for the purpose of public awareness.

At this time, details remain limited. Authorities have not released information about what started the confrontation or how many individuals were directly involved. Witnesses say chaos broke out in the area as the shooting unfolded, and businesses nearby scrambled to lock their doors as police rushed to the scene.

This remains a developing story, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

  • Remembering Tony Moss: A Life Filled with Laughter, Stories, and Unforgettable Memories

Remembering Tony Moss: A Life Filled with Laughter, Stories, and Unforgettable Memories

London,United Kingdom-It is with immense sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tony Moss, who left us on Monday, 18th August 2025, after a short illness. Tony wasn’t just a friend—he was family. To many of us, he was like an uncle or a second dad, someone whose presence in our lives was constant, comforting, and full of joy.

Tony had a unique gift for making every moment memorable. Whether we were talking complete nonsense, scheming grand plans for the future, exchanging terrible jokes, or celebrating birthdays early (or late), Tony was always there with a smile, a laugh, and a story that could keep you enthralled for hours. You never quite knew if his tales would end seriously or with a punchline—but somehow, that was part of the magic.

He loved to share memories of his life growing up in Dane Valley, the characters he knew, and the adventures he had along the way. He spoke fondly of working with his dad, meeting Rachel, driving cars to school at 14, and his experiences at the Lido with Ricky and other local landmarks in Margate. Tony lived a rich, full life, and he carried every story with warmth, humor, and pride.

Tony was always there for others, offering his help, advice, or simply a shoulder to lean on. Whether it was fixing a DIY disaster, giving guidance, or brightening someone’s day with a laugh, he never hesitated to step in. Our lives were full of shared adventures—weddings, parties, mischievous schemes, chasing people for silly favors, or sending each other off on wild film shoots. Every moment spent with Tony was infused with fun, spontaneity, and laughter.

He was also a cornerstone of our projects and passions. Thanet Classics and OhSoRetro owe so much to Tony. It was his and his dad’s idea to start the club, and he was there from the very beginning of OhSoRetro, offering advice, encouragement, and keeping the show running smoothly. Without him, so many of our dreams, successes, and shared creative ventures would have looked very different.

Tony’s humor and spirit were unmatched. From inside jokes that only we understood to laughing until we cried, he made life brighter and lighter for everyone around him. Looking back at our photos, it’s impossible to grieve without also smiling at the joy he brought into our lives. Even when he always seemed to get the last laugh, we never imagined it would end so soon.

Above all, Tony’s heart was enormous. He cared deeply for those around him, and his love for Rachel and Mack was evident in everything he did. His guidance, protection, and unwavering support touched everyone lucky enough to know him. We can honor his memory by carrying forward that same love and care for each other.

Tony Moss, you were truly one in a million. We’ll miss your laughter, your stories, your endless jokes, and the warmth you brought into every room. Thank you for the memories, the lessons, and the joy. We’ll never forget you.

And don’t worry, mate—I’ll look after Rachel and Mack, just like you always looked after me.

Remembering Glenn Martin: A Life of Faith, Gentleness, and Lasting Impact

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Glenn Martin, a beloved leader, mentor, and friend. Glenn, alongside his devoted wife Rhoda, played a pivotal role in the early story of Gather to Go, helping shape it into the YWAM organization it has become today. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of this ministry and into the lives of countless people he encouraged, guided, and believed in.

From the beginning, Glenn served with quiet strength and unwavering conviction. As an advisor and mentor to the leadership team, he provided wisdom that helped guide crucial decisions. As a key communicator at many Gather to Go events, he used his words to inspire, build up, and point others toward a life lived for Jesus. And as a dedicated board member until his passing, he faithfully poured himself into the mission, ensuring the vision of Gather to Go would not only survive, but thrive.

What stood out most about Glenn, however, went beyond his service. His radical belief in young people set him apart as someone who saw potential when others saw inexperience. His impact will not fade with his passing; it will continue to ripple outward through every person he inspired, every leader he mentored, and every community touched by the missionaries he believed in.

  • Detroit Police Arrest Ex-Husband Accused of Fatally Shooting Woman at Henry Ford Hospital

Detroit Police Arrest Ex-Husband Accused of Fatally Shooting Woman at Henry Ford Hospital

DETROIT — A tragic act of domestic violence inside one of Detroit’s largest hospitals has left a family shattered and an entire community grieving. Police confirmed Saturday morning that 53-year-old Mario Green, the suspect in Friday’s deadly shooting at Henry Ford Hospital, is now in custody.

Authorities say Green walked into the hospital on Friday morning and confronted his ex-wife, Latricia Green (Brown), in the basement of the facility where she worked. According to investigators, he claimed he was there to drop off some of her belongings. When she reportedly told him to leave, an argument broke out. That’s when police say Green pulled out a gun and fatally shot her.

The hospital went into lockdown immediately after the shooting, as terrified staff and patients sheltered in place. Green fled the scene in a 2011 white Dodge Charger with license plate DXC7067, sparking a citywide manhunt. Later that afternoon, the vehicle was found abandoned near Trojan and Lahser in Detroit.

    Neighbors Recall Chaos After Escape

David Kinslow, who lives in the neighborhood where Green’s car was found, described the scene as overwhelming.

“Complete mayhem and chaos out here,” Kinslow said. “Officials even pulled footage from my security cameras to figure out which way he went. They were tracking him.”

Police eventually caught up with Green late Friday night, bringing a tense day to an end.

    Family in Shock and Mourning

For Latricia Green’s loved ones, the loss is unbearable. Family members identified her as a hardworking, caring woman who gave so much to others.

“She was such a sweet person; she didn’t deserve what happened to her at all,” said Deantjuan Jones, Latricia’s cousin. He explained that when he first saw Green’s photo on social media, he immediately recognized him. “When you say ex-wife, it just kind of clicked a little bit, like you didn’t have to say who it was.”

Another cousin, Rodney Hickman, pleaded for the suspect to surrender before his arrest: “We’re just hoping you do the right thing, man… turn yourself in.”

Friends and Co-Workers Remember a Kind Soul

Those who worked alongside Latricia at Henry Ford Hospital said the tragedy has left them shaken. Devin Wilford, a colleague, described her as more than just a coworker:

“She was magnificent. She was more than a friend, she was a mother, she was a wife, she did her job. We’re devastated.”

Court Records Reveal History of Threats

Court documents paint a chilling picture of escalating danger in the weeks before the shooting. Latricia had filed for personal protection orders (PPOs) against Green on two separate occasions this summer.

    • On June 13, she requested a PPO, citing stalking and repeated threats at her workplace. That request was denied. In her filing, she detailed how Mario Green “continued to call my job and threaten to meet employees outside” and even “showed up to my job and tried to enter my office without my approval to get to me.”
    • On July 20, she filed again, reporting that his harassment had intensified.

Despite her efforts to seek protection, she was left vulnerable to the violence that unfolded inside her workplace.

Community Reacts with Outrage and Heartbreak

Coworkers, neighbors, and Detroit residents are now calling for stronger protections for victims of domestic violence, especially those who face harassment at work. Valencia Herron, who also works at Henry Ford Hospital, said she and others had seen Green around before.

“When they posted the picture of him on Facebook, we were all saying we’ve seen him before,” Herron recalled.

For Latricia’s family, the grief is still raw. They describe her as a woman who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and had her life taken in the very place where she gave so much to others.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and Green will face multiple charges, including murder.
