FORT WAYNE, Ind— A Thursday evening shooting on Fort Wayne’s southeast side has left one person injured, according to initial reports from authorities.
Police say calls began coming in around 7:30 p.m. reporting shots fired in the 4400 block of Standish Drive, a residential area located near several neighborhood homes and apartment complexes. Multiple Fort Wayne Police Department units were dispatched to the scene within minutes, where they found one victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical responders provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. At this time, officials have not released the victim’s name, age, or current medical condition. Authorities have only confirmed that the individual was alive when taken from the scene.
Detectives and crime scene technicians remained in the area into the evening hours, canvassing the neighborhood for evidence, interviewing potential witnesses, and securing the roadway with crime tape. Police have not said whether any suspects are in custody or if they have identified a motive in the case.
Neighbors reported hearing several loud pops before seeing police lights fill the street. Some residents described the incident as frightening, noting that the shooting disrupted what was otherwise a quiet evening. “I was just sitting in my living room when I heard the shots,” one nearby resident said. “It’s scary to think something like this is happening right outside our doors.”
The Fort Wayne Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the shooter to come forward. Detectives say even small details—such as descriptions of vehicles leaving the area or security camera footage—could prove crucial in advancing the investigation.
The shooting adds to a growing list of violent incidents being investigated in Fort Wayne this summer, many of which have taken place in residential neighborhoods. City leaders and community organizations have been pushing for greater collaboration between residents and law enforcement in efforts to curb violence.
As of Thursday night, the investigation remains active, and police have not provided any updates on arrests or suspects. Authorities plan to release more details as they become available.
