Norfolk, Va. – 20-year-old Christian Robert Markus Snyder of Norfolk was killed early Saturday morning after a high-speed police pursuit ended in a violent crash near Brambleton Boulevard and Cecelia Street.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident began at approximately 1:24 a.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph on Interstate 264 near the Laskin Road overpass. The rider refused to pull over, sparking a dangerous pursuit through the city.
Investigators say Snyder accelerated to speeds approaching 140 mph, weaving through traffic and running multiple red lights. The chase ultimately came to a devastating end when he lost control and struck a concrete wall head-on near the intersection of Brambleton Boulevard and Cecelia Street.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Snyder was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the crash.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the site to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident. Officials will review all factors leading up to the collision, including roadway conditions, pursuit details, and motorcycle performance.
The crash temporarily restricted traffic in the area as investigators worked through the morning hours. Roads have since reopened.
