MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — The desperate search for missing 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro has taken a shocking turn as investigators confirm that both parents, Rebecca and Jake Haro, have been arrested and are now considered prime suspects in their son’s disappearance.
Authorities say the baby was reported missing on August 14, 2025, after Rebecca told police she was attacked while changing Emmanuel in the family’s truck at a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa around 7 p.m. Rebecca claimed a stranger kidnapped her infant in the parking lot, triggering an immediate Amber Alert and widespread manhunt.
A Case Filled with Twists
Since that initial report, the investigation has unraveled in startling ways. Detectives executed multiple search warrants in Cabazon and other parts of Riverside County, combing through desert terrain along Highway 60 in the Badlands, just east of Gilman Springs Road. Crime scene photos released this week show investigators scouring rugged stretches of land sometimes referred to locally as the “secret spot.”
In one chilling detail, Emmanuel’s father, Jake Haro, was photographed assisting police during the search for his son. Only days later, both he and Rebecca were placed under arrest.
Parents Lawyer Up
The Haros have retained attorney Vincent Hughes, who issued a statement urging the public not to rush to judgment:
“This is an incredibly tragic and complex case. My clients maintain that their child was taken from them, and we will challenge the state’s narrative in court.”
Still, police now say evidence points toward Emmanuel’s disappearance being staged. Detectives have not elaborated on what led to the parents’ arrests but cited “inconsistencies” in their statements.
Family History Raises Alarming Questions
The family’s background has added another disturbing layer. Rebecca’s brother, James Beushausen, is currently serving a 50-year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, Jaylynn Amanda Keith, a case that drew headlines years earlier because James was found guilty of staging the crime scene.
This revelation has fueled speculation that Rebecca and Jake may have orchestrated a hoax around Emmanuel’s disappearance, though police have not yet formally confirmed this theory.
The baby’s grandmother, Mary Beushausen, has publicly pleaded for answers, calling Emmanuel’s disappearance “a nightmare we cannot wake up from.”
New Crime Scene Evidence
Sources close to the investigation told reporters that new crime scene photos taken near Beaumont and Cabazon depict items collected by investigators that may be linked to Emmanuel. Officials, however, have not confirmed whether the infant’s remains have been found.
Sheriff’s deputies say the search effort has been “massive and ongoing,” with law enforcement officers, cadaver dogs, and drones deployed across the Badlands.
Press Conference Expected
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has not yet scheduled an official press conference, but one is anticipated this week as mounting public pressure demands answers.
Community members are divided—some holding out hope that Emmanuel is still alive, while others fear the worst.
A Possible Hoax?
The case has been clouded by rumors of a staged kidnapping. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the alleged attack outside the sporting goods store never happened.
For now, the Haros remain behind bars as the case against them builds, and Emmanuel’s whereabouts remain unknown.
