MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A weekend shooting in Montgomery has left a young man dead, marking the city’s 43rd homicide of 2025 and intensifying concerns over rising violence in the community.
Police have identified the victim as 28-year-old Damorrea Dill-Driver, who was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 23, 2025. According to Sgt. Tina McGriff of the Montgomery Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 12:37 a.m. in the 5000 block of Carmichael Road.
When officers arrived, they found Dill-Driver suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, investigators have not released details about what may have led to the shooting, and no arrests have been announced. Authorities continue to investigate, canvassing the area for witnesses and potential surveillance footage that may provide critical leads.
The fatal shooting has left family, friends, and community members mourning yet another life lost to gun violence. Residents in the Carmichael Road area expressed shock and sadness at the news. “It’s heartbreaking,” said one neighbor. “This keeps happening, and we don’t know when it’s going to stop. Our community is tired of living in fear.”
