Authorities urged motorists to seek alternate routes, warning of significant delays throughout the region.

Incident and Police Response

According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the closure was due to extensive police activity connected to the injury of one of their deputies. The deputy was transported to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where officials say they were alert and conscious upon arrival.

At approximately 1:05 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody. The circumstances leading to the deputy’s injuries remain under investigation, and authorities have not released details about the suspect or what led to the incident.

Witnesses traveling on I-95 reported seeing a heavy law enforcement presence, including state troopers, local police, and tactical units, as well as a helicopter circling the area around 12:30 p.m. One driver shared photos of the scene, describing the moment as “unlike anything I’ve ever seen on this stretch of I-95.”

Community Impact and Traffic Chaos

Local businesses near the Maryland House exit reported a surge of stranded motorists seeking food and restrooms as they waited for updates.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet released the name of the injured deputy or provided an update on their condition beyond the initial statement that they were conscious and communicating when taken to the hospital.

The Maryland State Police are assisting in the investigation, and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office is expected to hold a press briefing later this afternoon to provide more details.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area entirely until I-95 fully reopens.
