Firefighter Michael Terrio, 32, of Killingworth, Tragically Killed in I-95 Motorcycle Crash

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. – August 25, 2025 – The community of Guilford and the greater shoreline region are mourning the loss of 32-year-old firefighter Michael Terrio, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 95 south late Friday night.

According to Connecticut State Police, Terrio, a resident of Killingworth, was riding his Suzuki motorcycle around 8:45 p.m. near exit 59 when he collided with the rear of a Volvo XC90. The driver of the SUV, a 66-year-old man from New Jersey, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Terrio was also taken to the hospital following the crash but was later pronounced dead.

The news of Terrio’s passing has left his family, friends, and colleagues devastated. The Guilford Fire Department, where Terrio faithfully served, released a heartfelt statement Sunday morning: “Firefighter Terrio was a devoted public servant who dedicated himself to safeguarding the residents of Guilford. His absence is profoundly felt by his fellow firefighters, colleagues from various town departments, and the entire Guilford community.”

Terrio was known not only for his dedication to public safety but also for his compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to his fellow firefighters. His colleagues say he embodied the true spirit of service, always ready to respond in times of need and to support those around him.

In the wake of his loss, Guilford officials announced they will share details of memorial arrangements in the coming days. They also confirmed that peer support services will be made available to department members and staff to help them process the sudden tragedy.
