HENDERSON COUNTY — On Monday evening, August 25, at approximately 8:54 PM, deputies from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a call reporting a shooting near Shady Trail in the Westwood Beach subdivision south of Chandler. When they arrived, authorities discovered 35-year-old Cory Starnes suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the swift response of first responders and the efforts of witnesses, Mr. Starnes tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Investigators later identified 18-year-old Chuck Brady Norris as the suspected shooter
Investigation and Events Leading to the Shooting
Deputies quickly began piecing together the events of the evening. According to the investigation, an altercation had occurred earlier at Mr. Starnes’ residence involving 18-year-old Chuck Brady Norris. The disagreement escalated, and during the dispute, Norris reportedly went to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and fatally shot Mr. Starnes before fleeing.
The gravity of the situation prompted swift legal action. 392nd Judicial District Judge Scott McKee issued an arrest warrant for Murder as well as a search warrant for the property. At the scene, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Tony Duncan conducted the inquest and later ordered an autopsy through American Forensics to formally determine the cause of death.
Suspect Surrenders
Later that night, in a surprising turn, Norris contacted the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office from a convenience store in Frankston, Texas. He indicated his intent to surrender peacefully. Deputies arrived at the location and took him into custody without incident. Norris was subsequently transported to the Henderson County Jail, where he now awaits formal arraignment on the charge of Murder.
