Deputy Targeted in Shooting While Conducting Surveillance; Three Arrested

LUBBOCK, Texas —The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) confirmed that one of its deputies came under fire late Wednesday night while conducting surveillance in search of a wanted felon. The deputy, who was not struck or injured, was fired upon by suspects later identified as Jaime Flores, 26, Devin Hernandez, 19, and Tamajhe Turner, 25. His unmarked vehicle was hit multiple times and disabled in the gunfire.

According to LCSO, the incident unfolded around 10:00 p.m. near 34th Street and Salem Avenue in Lubbock. The deputy, who was stationed in the area as part of an ongoing search, was observing when the suspects suddenly opened fire. Despite coming under a barrage of gunfire, the deputy managed to escape the scene and call for backup.

Law enforcement described the incident as extremely dangerous, emphasizing that “the deputy was directly targeted and fortunate to walk away unharmed.”

Massive Police Response

The gunfire drew an immediate and widespread response from law enforcement. Nearly every agency in the area rushed to assist, flooding the neighborhood with officers and patrol units. Within hours, authorities had detained four individuals connected to the shooting. After further investigation, three suspects — Flores, Hernandez, and Turner — were formally arrested and charged.

  • Tamajhe Turner, 25
    • Deadly Conduct
    • Evading on Foot
    • Possession of Marijuana (4 oz – 5 lbs)
    • 2 counts of Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
    • Tampering with Evidence
    • Discharge of a Firearm in a Municipality

Authorities also confirmed that four firearms were recovered from the suspects during the arrests.

Community Alert and Ongoing Investigation

While three individuals remain in custody, the investigation is still ongoing. Detectives are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether additional individuals may have been involved.

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office released a statement urging the public to come forward if they have any knowledge about the incident:

“If any member of the public has more information about this event, they are encouraged to contact the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office directly or submit an anonymous tip on our mobile app.”

A Close Call

Incidents involving deputies under fire are rare in Lubbock County, but Wednesday night’s shooting underscores the dangers law enforcement officers face daily in the line of duty. LCSO officials said they are thankful no officers or community members were hurt during the exchange.

The arrested suspects remain in custody as charges move forward.
