DETROIT, Mich. — Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced on Saturday, August 23, 2025, that Demontrel Benard Wilson, Deonate Cornealous Cherry, and Terrance Jaland Blue have been formally charged in connection with the tragic and senseless death of 6-year-old Rylee Love.
The defendants, 30-year-old Demontrel Benard Wilson, 28-year-old Deonate Cornealous Cherry, and 28-year-old Terrance Jaland Blue, face serious charges including Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder, First-Degree Murder, and Conspiracy to Discharge Firearms from a Vehicle Causing Death, among others. All three were arraigned and remanded to jail following their court appearance.
The fatal incident occurred on July 27, 2025, at approximately 8:58 p.m., when Detroit police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue. Upon arrival, officers were urgently flagged down by family members at a nearby residence who reported that a child had been shot inside their home.
Investigators found Rylee Love in a bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was immediately transported by medics to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in shock and grief.
Speaking about the case, Prosecutor Kym Worthy described Rylee as “the ultimate innocent victim” and emphasized the devastating consequences of reckless violence. “The alleged actions of these defendants directly caused his senseless death. I have said many times that bullets have no eyes or sense of direction. The bullets in this case struck a child playing in his house, and he will not see another day,” Worthy said.
The arrests mark a critical step in the investigation, which has involved gathering evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and examining witness statements to establish the defendants’ roles in the shooting. Authorities allege that the shooting was a result of deliberate and coordinated criminal activity, highlighting the dangers posed by firearms used in residential areas.
Legal proceedings for the defendants are scheduled to continue with a Probable Cause Conference on September 2, 2025, followed by a Preliminary Examination on September 9, 2025, both before Judge Shawn Jacque. Prosecutors have indicated that they will pursue all available evidence to ensure justice is served for Rylee Love and his family.
The tragic loss of Rylee has reverberated throughout Detroit, prompting calls for increased safety measures, stricter gun laws, and greater awareness of the dangers of gun violence. Friends, neighbors, and community members have expressed profound grief over the death of a child whose life was abruptly ended by acts of violence beyond his control.
As the legal process unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding the case to come forward to support the ongoing investigation. The community continues to mourn Rylee Love, remembering him as a young boy with a bright future whose life was taken far too soon.
