Chattanooga Police Arrest Suspect in Motel Shooting, Seek Additional Person of Interest

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this month at a motel along Lee Highway, but authorities are now seeking the public’s help in identifying another possible suspect.

Guster Harfield, 64, was taken into custody one day after the shooting and has been charged with first-degree murder, according to the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD). Harfield’s arrest followed an intensive investigation by CPD Homicide Investigators, who continue to piece together the events leading up to the deadly incident.

Fatal Shooting at Lee Highway Motel

Police report that the shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon in the 7700 block of Lee Highway, near the Motel 6. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency personnel from Chattanooga Fire and Hamilton County EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity has not been publicly released, pending notification of family.

Person of Interest Released to Public

While the arrest of Harfield represents a major development, investigators believe another individual may have been involved. CPD has released three photos of an unidentified woman they want to question in connection with the case.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes her or knows her whereabouts to contact the CPD Homicide Tip Line at 423-643-5100. Callers can remain anonymous.

Police Statement

Chattanooga Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward. “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic shooting,” a CPD spokesperson said. “We ask the public’s help in identifying this person of interest to ensure all involved are held accountable.”

The department continues to work closely with witnesses and reviews surveillance footage from the area as part of the ongoing investigation.

Community Safety

Residents in the Lee Highway area are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Police have increased patrols in the vicinity and continue to encourage anyone with information — no matter how small it may seem — to contact investigators.

This remains an active investigation, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
