The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, August 22, near North Main Street and Fourth Street, directly across from the Cumberland County Courthouse. The area was crowded at the time, and authorities say the confrontation began in the roadway before escalating into gunfire.

Investigators confirmed that several witnesses were present during the incident, and some captured cellphone video of the shooting. District Attorney Dunaway stated that these recordings are now being used as evidence in the ongoing case.

Garrison is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1 million bond. He faces serious legal consequences as prosecutors pursue the upgraded charge of second-degree murder, which reflects the severity of the crime and the fact that it resulted in Sturgill’s death.

Authorities are continuing to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and review all available video recordings to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

“This is a heartbreaking incident for our community,” said District Attorney Dunaway. “Our thoughts are with the family of Albert Darrell Sturgill Jr. during this incredibly difficult time, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served.”

The case continues to develop, and updates, including court proceedings and further investigative findings, are expected to be released in the coming days.
