Charge to Be Upgraded to Second-Degree Murder in Downtown Crossville Shooting

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. – A Friday evening shooting in downtown Crossville has turned deadly, prompting prosecutors to upgrade charges against the suspect to Second-Degree Murder.District Attorney Bryant Dunaway confirmed Saturday afternoon that the victim, who was critically injured in the shooting, has died at a local hospital. The victim’s name has not yet been officially released, pending notification of family members.

The suspect, Eric Brandon Garrison, of Crossville, was originally charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder. With the victim’s death, Dunaway says those charges will be elevated to Second-Degree Murder.

Garrison remains in custody at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.

Shooting in the Heart of Downtown Crossville

The shooting occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. Friday, at the intersection of North Main Street and Fourth Street, directly across from the Cumberland County Courthouse. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted in one of the busiest areas of the city during peak evening hours.

Numerous bystanders witnessed the incident, and several individuals captured portions of the shooting on their cellphones. District Attorney Dunaway confirmed that these videos have been collected and are now part of the evidence in the case.

“This was a violent crime that occurred in the heart of our community,” Dunaway stated. “Our office will pursue this case aggressively to ensure justice is served for the victim and their family.”

Investigation Ongoing

The Crossville Police Department, with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials have not released details regarding a possible motive or whether Garrison and the victim knew each other.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional video or information related to the incident to contact the Crossville Police Department immediately.
