Cape May County 4-H Mourns the Loss of Beloved Leader Betty Jean “BJ” Jesuncosky Webersinn

CAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J. – It is with profound sadness that Cape May County 4-H and the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County announce the passing of Betty Jean Jesuncosky Webersinn, affectionately known as BJ, a treasured member of the 4-H family for more than fifty years. BJ passed peacefully at home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, after a long illness, leaving a legacy of dedication, mentorship, and love for the 4-H community.

A Lifetime of Service to 4-H

BJ began her career in extension work in 1970 and quickly became a cornerstone of 4-H in Cape May County. In 1974, she assumed the role of 4-H Program Associate, and later, as 4-H Agent, she served with distinction for over three decades. Her leadership was marked by a combination of professionalism, warmth, and generosity, earning her the affection and respect of colleagues, volunteers, and countless youth members.

Even after her retirement in 2012, BJ remained deeply involved with 4-H, volunteering tirelessly to support programs and initiatives. Her dedication extended to funding travel for 4-Hers to national leadership conferences, ensuring that young members could experience opportunities beyond Cape May County. Most recently, BJ spearheaded a first-time camper scholarship to L.G. Cook 4-H Camp, helping children experience the joy of camp for the first time.

Impact on Generations of Youth

BJ’s influence on the youth of Cape May County is immeasurable. Over her long and successful career, she touched the lives of countless children, instilling in them the values of leadership, responsibility, and community service. Her passion for 4-H and her dedication to kids were evident in everything she did. Colleagues often remarked that BJ truly “bled green,” demonstrating her unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission.

From mentoring volunteers to guiding 4-Hers through competitions and community projects, BJ’s mentorship shaped generations of young people, fostering confidence, curiosity, and compassion. Her legacy will continue through the lives she touched, and her impact will be felt for years to come.

Celebration of Life

In honor of BJ’s remarkable life and service, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center. The event will welcome friends, family, colleagues, and all who were touched by her dedication to 4-H.

BJ’s life exemplified service, kindness, and unwavering support for youth. Her dedication to 4-H and her community leaves an indelible mark, inspiring those who knew her to carry forward her passion and commitment. As Cape May County 4-H mourns her loss, it also celebrates her extraordinary contributions and the love she shared with all.

Her memory will live on in the countless 4-H members, families, and colleagues whose lives she shaped, and in the ongoing programs she nurtured with care, generosity, and heart.
