Camden Man Arrested for Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials

Camden, Maine — Authorities have arrested a Camden man following an investigation into the alleged possession of sexually explicit materials, according to a statement from the Maine State Police. On August 21, 2025, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Thomas Karod, 56, of Camden, in connection with an ongoing investigation.

Karod faces charges of Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials, classified under Maine law as a Class C felony.

A judge reviewed and approved the warrant earlier this week, allowing police to move forward with the arrest. Karod was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Damariscotta Police Department and the Camden Police Department, officials confirmed.

Authorities have not yet released details about the scope of the investigation or the circumstances that led investigators to Karod. The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, which handles investigations involving online exploitation and digital evidence, has been at the forefront of similar cases across the state.

Karod is expected to make his initial court appearance in the coming days, where he will face the felony charge. If convicted, a Class C felony in Maine can carry a prison sentence of up to five years, along with fines and other penalties.

The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of Maine law enforcement agencies to combat crimes involving sexually explicit content, particularly those facilitated by digital platforms. Officials said the investigation remains active, and additional information may be released as the case proceeds through the court system.

Community members in Camden and surrounding towns have expressed concern following news of the arrest, as the case highlights the continued challenges posed by crimes involving digital exploitation. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious online activity to law enforcement.
