Emergency responders, including Medic 1, Medic 5, Shanghai Fire, and law enforcement, arrived on the scene within minutes of the initial 911 call. Upon arrival, crews discovered two vehicles involved in a severe head-on crash with one individual entrapped and unconscious inside their vehicle.
Firefighters and medics worked urgently to extricate the victim and provide life-saving measures. Despite their best efforts, authorities have now confirmed that the individual succumbed to their injuries. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification.
The Operations Channel PS-6 was utilized to coordinate rescue and response efforts, and the bridge remains closed in both directions as law enforcement conducts a full investigation into the cause of the crash. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes via E. Dixon Boulevard or South Lafayette Street until further notice.
