Detroit, MI — The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged 53-year-old Mario Dewayne Green of Detroit in connection with the tragic shooting death of 40-year-old Latricia Green, his ex-wife and an employee of Henry Ford Hospital.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded on the morning of Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., when Mario Green allegedly entered Henry Ford Hospital on West Grand Boulevard armed with a handgun. Prosecutors say Green was prohibited from entering the hospital due to a documented history of stalking and harassing Ms. Green while she was at work.
Authorities allege that Green made his way to the basement level, where Ms. Green’s office was located, and opened fire at close range, fatally wounding her. He then fled the hospital in a vehicle.
The hospital was immediately placed on lockdown as Detroit police officers rushed to the scene. Despite medical efforts, Ms. Green succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after. The Wayne County Medical Examiner later confirmed the cause of death as a close-range gunshot wound.
A multi-agency investigation was launched within minutes, involving the Detroit Police Department, ATF, Michigan State Police, the FBI, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and Henry Ford Hospital’s Security Police. Authorities located and arrested Green on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
Prosecutors have charged Green with the following:
- First-Degree Premeditated Murder
- Discharge of a Firearm in a Building Causing Death
- Aggravated Stalking
- Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person
- Four counts of Felony Firearm
If convicted, Green faces life in prison without the possibility of parole on the murder charge alone. Additional sentencing guidelines will apply to the firearm-related offenses.
Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office officials noted that more details will be presented at the upcoming preliminary examination, where the full scope of evidence will be placed on record.
Authorities emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
