  • Eric Garrison Identified as Suspect in Fatal Downtown Crossville Shooting

Eric Garrison Identified as Suspect in Fatal Downtown Crossville Shooting

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — The deadly shooting that occurred on Main Street in downtown Crossville, in front of the Cumberland County Courthouse, has been linked to Eric Garrison, who is now identified as the suspect in the incident. The events, captured on video, have sparked widespread discussion and debate as details continue to emerge.

According to sources and video footage obtained from the scene, the incident began when a man, described as possibly mentally disturbed, was acting erratically in the street near War Memorial Park. The man, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, reportedly made obscene gestures toward the flags in the park. Eyewitnesses indicate that three other men approached him, leading to a confrontation directly in the middle of Main Street.

Video footage shows that the ‘erratic’ man appears to strike one of the approaching men, who then leaves the scene briefly, crosses the street, retrieves a pistol, and returns to the confrontation. The suspect, later identified as Eric Garrison, allegedly navigates around the other individuals before shooting the man in the head, causing him to collapse onto the pavement.

According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was a military veteran and appeared to have a prosthetic leg. Sources also suggest that the other men involved in the confrontation, including Garrison, may also be veterans, reportedly angered by the victim’s gestures toward the War Memorial Park flags.

The shooting prompted an immediate response from law enforcement. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and local police conducted a thorough investigation that included closing Main Street for approximately five hours to process the scene. The severity of the incident and the video evidence have led many to describe the act as a murder, noting that the confrontation could have been de-escalated without loss of life.

Authorities have confirmed that Eric Garrison has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and due to standard law enforcement and TBI procedures, full details about the motivations and sequence of events may not be immediately available to the public.

The tragic incident has left the Crossville community reeling. Residents expressed shock at the violence occurring in such a central, historically safe part of downtown. “It’s unsettling to think this happened right in front of the courthouse,” one witness said. “From the video, it looks like someone made a split-second decision that cost a life — and it’s heartbreaking.”

The case highlights the dangers of confrontations escalating into deadly violence, even in situations where multiple options for de-escalation may exist. Legal proceedings against Eric Garrison are expected to continue as authorities compile evidence and witness statements.

This incident serves as a reminder of the fragile balance between public safety, personal responsibility, and the consequences of actions taken in moments of anger or fear.

  • Humphreys County Sheriff Praises Quick Action After Gun Threat at Waverly/McEwen Football Game

Humphreys County Sheriff Praises Quick Action After Gun Threat at Waverly/McEwen Football Game

HUMPHREYS COUNTY, Tenn. – What could have been a frightening and potentially tragic situation at a high school football game Friday night was averted thanks to quick action by School Resource Officers (SROs) and vigilant spectators.

According to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis, the incident unfolded during the Waverly vs. McEwen football game on August 22, 2025, when SRO deputies received reports that a student in attendance may have had a firearm in his backpack. Witnesses told officers that the individual had displayed the weapon and allegedly made statements about planning to shoot some players after the game.

Rapid Response Leads to Safe Resolution

Based on the detailed description provided by multiple witnesses, SROs were able to quickly locate the student in question. Upon searching his belongings, deputies recovered what appeared to be a handgun inside his backpack. The suspect was immediately taken into custody without incident.

It was later determined that the weapon was an airsoft pistol designed to look like a real firearm—a distinction that could not have been known by those who saw it.

“Regardless of whether this was a real firearm or not, pulling that out in a crowd of hundreds of people would have caused panic and possibly led to a much more dangerous situation,” Sheriff Davis said in a statement.

Community Cooperation Credited for Averting Crisis

Sheriff Davis praised the quick thinking of those who came forward to report the threat, saying their actions likely prevented harm.

“We are extremely thankful for the individuals who had the courage to speak up,” Davis stated. “Their willingness to report this immediately allowed for a swift response by our SROs, who were able to secure the suspect and the weapon before anyone was hurt.”

    Suspect Identified as Out-of-County Student

Authorities revealed that the suspect is a student from a neighboring county school system. The Director of Schools for that district has been notified, and the ongoing investigation will determine what charges the student will face.

While the recovered weapon was not capable of causing lethal harm, law enforcement officials emphasized that the situation was still extremely serious.

“Anytime a weapon—real or replica—is brandished in a school setting or at a school event, we treat it as a direct threat,” Sheriff Davis said. “The safety of our students, players, and community members is our top priority.”

    Reassurance to the Public

The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there is no further threat to the public and that security measures at school events will remain heightened as a precaution.

“We want parents, students, and staff to know that we take every report seriously,” Davis added. “This incident is a reminder of how vital it is for everyone to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.”

The investigation remains active, and further details—including the charges against the student—are expected to be released in the coming days.

Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office at (931) 296-2301.
