CONYERS, Ga. — An active police scene is unfolding overnight at the Harvest Grove Apartments off Iris Drive, where authorities have evacuated several residents as they work to contain a developing situation.
Limited details have been released so far, but the incident began late Wednesday night and was still ongoing as of 2:21 a.m. Thursday. Witnesses in the complex reported hearing at least one gunshot, prompting a large police response and precautionary evacuations.
One resident described the tense atmosphere, saying, “The police just asked me to leave my apartment in case they start shooting at the suspect.” Law enforcement officers have not yet confirmed whether the suspect is armed, but neighbors say they were told to remain outside until given clearance to return to their homes.
Police have blocked off entrances to the complex as additional units continue to arrive. Residents in nearby buildings were seen gathering outside, many in pajamas or wrapped in blankets, trying to stay updated on what was happening inside the community.
Authorities have not confirmed whether anyone has been injured, and it is unclear at this time what led to the initial police response. Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputies and Conyers Police officers appear to be working jointly on the situation.
As of the latest update, officers remain stationed throughout the apartment complex, and investigators have been seen going door to door to ensure all residents are accounted for.
This is a developing story, and more information is expected once authorities release an official statement.
