CAMERON PARK, Calif. — A tragic shooting in Cameron Park on Friday night claimed the lives of 29-year-old Marissa N. Divodi-Lessa and her son, Josiah Divodi-Lessa, leaving the community in shock as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to sheriff’s officials, deputies responded around 9 p.m. on August 21, 2025, to reports of gunfire near Oakwood and Chelsea Roads. Upon arrival, they discovered Marissa and Josiah both suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies reported that Marissa was pronounced dead at the scene, while Josiah was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators quickly identified 47-year-old Darin McFarlin, a Cameron Park resident, as a person of interest in the case. McFarlin was detained just after midnight on August 22 in Mono County. Authorities have confirmed that McFarlin, who serves as a fire captain with Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado unit, is now facing two counts of homicide and has been booked into El Dorado County Jail without bail.
Sheriff’s officials have not commented on any potential connection between McFarlin and the victims, and the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence to determine the events that led to the fatal shootings.
Deputies also confirmed that a second juvenile residing at the home was found safe and unharmed. Authorities have emphasized that the community is not currently considered at risk but have urged anyone with information about the case to come forward to assist investigators.
