BETHEL, Conn. — The Stony Hill Fire Department is grieving the loss of one of its most dedicated members, Past Captain Kevin Sheehan, who passed away after serving the department and the community with distinction for two decades.
Sheehan joined Stony Hill Fire Department more than 20 years ago, quickly becoming an integral part of the team and ultimately rising to the rank of Captain. Throughout his career, he was known not only for his leadership on the fireground but also for his mentorship of younger firefighters, instilling in them the values of service, dedication, and brotherhood.
Department officials said Sheehan’s influence continues to shape the organization today. “Kevin was more than just a firefighter — he was a cornerstone of this department,” a fellow member shared. “His guidance and commitment helped pave the way for the strong, service-oriented team we are today.”
The Sheehan family’s bond with the fire service runs deep. Kevin’s son, Tom Sheehan, followed in his father’s footsteps and also became an active member of the Stony Hill Fire Department, continuing the legacy of service to the community. The department expressed its deepest condolences to Tom, as well as to Kevin’s wife, Sandi Sheehan, during this time of profound grief.
In a heartfelt tribute, the department stated: “Rest Easy S4, we will take it from here.” Those words, often reserved for honoring fallen firefighters, carry the weight of the respect and admiration Kevin earned over his years of service.
Community members and fellow first responders across the region have also extended their sympathies, remembering Sheehan not only as a firefighter but as a neighbor and friend who gave selflessly to others. Plans for memorial services and department honors are expected to be announced in the coming days.
As Stony Hill mourns, the firehouse Kevin once called a second home now stands as a place of reflection, remembrance, and gratitude for a life spent protecting others. His legacy of service, leadership, and family dedication will remain etched in the department’s history.
