It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fendrick “Fen” Gabaud, who tragically passed away on August 22, 2025, shortly after completing a new-hire assessment to begin his dream career as a firefighter with Flagler County Fire Rescue. A recent graduate of Daytona State College’s Firefighter Minimum Standards and EMT program, and a graduate of the police academy in 2019, Fendrick was ready to dedicate his life to serving others. At only 40 years old, his journey was cut far too short.
Fendrick lived his life with courage, purpose, and an infectious joy. Known for his warm smile, vibrant personality, and unwavering devotion to his family, he was a shining light whose presence brought happiness to everyone around him. Friends, family, and colleagues alike remember him for his kindness, integrity, and the genuine way he uplifted those he met.
Born in Palm Beach County and raised in St. Lucie County, Florida, Fendrick excelled as an athlete, competing in football and track and field during his high school years. In 2003, he moved to Volusia County to attend Bethune, quickly becoming an active and valued member of the community. A true sports enthusiast, Fendrick maintained a lifelong love for fitness and passionately cheered on his favorite teams—the Miami Hurricanes and the Baltimore Ravens.
Above all, Fendrick was a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife, Alicia, and their two children, Aaliyah (10) and Leo (6). He was their unwavering supporter, never missing a game, recital, or opportunity to encourage and celebrate his family. His love, guidance, and presence will be deeply missed by his children and all who knew him.
Though Fendrick had not yet officially begun his career as a firefighter, he was—and will always be—part of the firefighter brotherhood, having already demonstrated the dedication, strength, and commitment that define those who serve. His passing is a profound loss not only to his family but also to the community he was preparing to protect and serve.
During this heartbreaking time, the community is encouraged to come together in support of Alicia, Aaliyah, and Leo, helping them navigate the unimaginable loss of their cornerstone. Your generosity will aid in providing for Fendrick’s family during this difficult period, ensuring that his legacy of love, service, and joy continues to shine brightly.
Fendrick “Fen” Gabaud will be remembered not just for his accomplishments, but for the compassion, energy, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His life serves as a testament to the power of living with purpose and the profound impact one person can have on the lives of others.
