CHICAGO, Ill. — A late-night shooting on Chicago’s South Side left 25-year-old Amanda dead and another young woman injured after gunfire erupted inside a home near 77th Street and Essex Avenue.
The Chicago Police Department reported that the incident occurred on Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 11:56 p.m. Officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired and arrived to find the front door of a residence open. Upon entering, they discovered two women suffering from gunshot wounds.
Amanda was found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds — two to the abdomen and one to the leg. She was rushed by emergency responders to the University of Chicago Medical Center, but despite extensive life-saving efforts, she was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
A second victim, a 23-year-old woman, was also discovered inside the residence. She sustained two gunshot wounds to the leg and one to the knee. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is listed in fair condition and is expected to survive.
At this time, police have not released details regarding a possible motive or suspect information. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing potential security camera footage in an effort to piece together what led to the shooting.
Neighbors described the scene as chaotic, with sirens and flashing lights filling the block late into the night. The violence has once again raised concerns in the community, where residents say they are weary of the ongoing cycle of shootings.
Amanda’s death marks yet another heartbreaking instance of a young life cut short by gun violence in Chicago. Family members and friends are mourning her sudden loss, remembering her as a vibrant young woman whose future was tragically stolen.
